Biography

Michael Marlowe Uy is a partner in SKY Law. His main practice areas are civil and criminal litigation, commercial arbitration, construction arbitration, contract law, labor and employment law, and corporation law.

Mr. Uy has successfully represented clients in a wide range of cases, involving commercial disputes, contract disputes, construction disputes, employment disputes, intra-corporate disputes, intellectual property disputes, asset recovery, and prosecution of white-collar crime. He also has extensive experience in advising domestic and multinational clients on a diverse range of matters, including mergers & and acquisitions, foreign investment, franchising, construction contracts, real estate transactions, and data privacy compliance.

He is an accredited arbitrator and the Deputy Secretary General for Operations of the Philippine International Center for Conflict Resolution (PICCR). He is also an accredited and recognized (2nd level) ADR Practitioner in Arbitration by the Office for Alternative Dispute Resolution of the Department of Justice of the Philippines. He is also a Fellow of the Philippine Arbitration Center in the Visayas (PACV).

In the Legal 500 Asia-Pacific 2023 edition, where he is cited as a Recommended Lawyer in Dispute Resolution, Mr. Uy is described by clients as an excellent counsel who 'gives legal advice that is grounded on realities and practical application' and 'has the directness to truly guide a client to weigh their options'. He has been shortlisted for Dispute Resolution Lawyer of the Year (2022) and Young Lawyer of the Year (2021) in the Asian Legal Business Philippine Law Awards.

He holds a Master in International Law, Foreign Trade and International Relations from the Instituto Superior de Derecho y Economia (ISDE) in Madrid and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of the Philippines College of Law. He also has a Master of Arts in Humanities with a specialization in History and a Bachelor of Arts Major in Humanities (both with honors) from the University of Asia and the Pacific. He has also completed and passed the Pre-Judicature Program of the Philippine Judicial Academy, and has pursued studies and completed all the requirements of the Basel Winter Arbitration School, the Winter Courses of the Hague Academy of International Law, and the Beyond IP Mastercourse (Legal track) of the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines.
