AGA sponsored LawCon conference takes place in Tanzania
30 August 2022
Alliott Global Alliance (‘AGA’), one of the world’s largest and fastest-growing multidisciplinary alliances, sponsored LawCon 2022 in Tanzania.
The event, hosted by AGA law firm member Stallion Attorneys in Tanzania and Zanzibar was set up to facilitate the discussion of regional developments in law and to building awareness of the top challenges law firms are facing in Tanzania and other countries in Africa.
The theme this year was ‘The Need For Specialisation and Economic Empowerment For Lawyers’ and was in partnership with Tanganyika Law Society (TLS), the Bar association of Tanzania.
The conference was attended in person by a range of law firms and lawyers, and over 30 speakers presented including Stephen Gitonga from AGA's Kenyan law firm member Gitonga Mureithi & Company. Giles Brake, AGA's CEO gave a virtual overview of the alliance, explaining the benefits of AGA as a global service provider to independent medium sized law firms and updated all on the growing presence of AGA in Africa.
The conference program included presentations and discussions on a wide range of topics including law firm practice and management, women in the global legal profession, and the future of the profession. Issa Shivji, one of Africa's leading experts on law and development issues was guest speaker and also presided over LawCon's first Tanzania Legal Awards ceremony.
Mr. Shehzada Walli , Managing Partner at Stallion Attorneys commented
“These gatherings serve as an important forum for sharing ideas, building professional networks, reinforcing shared professional values, advocating for the rule of law in varied jurisdictions, and advancing the status of the legal profession in the African region.
“Following the discussions at this excellent 2nd event, we plan to prepare a brief report that we can submit to the Tanganyika Law Society, the Council For Legal Education, the Law School of Tanzania, the Ministry of Constitution and Legal Affairs and other Stakeholders to offer ideas for improvement and progression of our important profession. We look forward to welcoming delegates to our 2023 LawCon Conference.”
